I had the occasion to need a sympathy card with the recent death of a family member. These are always so hard to make- but so important for all of the obvious reasons: sharing your condolances, and doing so in a truly heartfelt manner by creating something with your own hands.
I made this card based on a design in the new Stampin' Up! catalog. The catalog shows it with the new "Herb Expressions" stamp set- which I don't have (yet!). So I substituted with "Embrace Life" and used the sentiment from the retired "Warmest Regards".
The card is 5" square, Old Olive. I used the "French Script" background, stamped in Old Olive, over the whole card. The next layer is Chocolate Chip. I stamped the branch in Old Olive on Very Vanilla cardstock, and on a separate piece of Very Vanilla, I stamped the flowers in Ballet Blue. Each flower was colored loosely with Bashful Blue, cut out by hand, and added to the branch with Mini Glue Dots. The sentiment was stamped in Chocolate Chip.
I used my paper piercer to make a partial border in the upper right corner, and completely trimmed away the lower left corner entirely, It was finished by using the Corner Rounder punch on the two left corners.
I had some wooden buttons in my stash, and they were the perfect color, size and texture to finish of the lower left corner- I tied a piece blue cotton embroidery thread through the holes before attaching it with E6000 adhesive.
It's a gentle card that expressed my sentiment, and I hope showed the depth of my caring in many ways.
